About Giselda Costa


Giselda dos Santos Costa is a professor and Researcher at Federal Institute of Piauí-Brazil for 20 years. She received her Masters and PhD degree in Linguistics from Federal University of Pernambuco (Recife- Brazil). She has teaching and coaching experience on the level of secondary, higher, and adult education. Her research interests focus the field of mobile learning, with a particular emphasis on context-aware on designing instructional methods, personal learning environments in formal and informal educational settings, innovative pedagogy and learning scenarios, foreign language teaching and critical visual literacy. She participated in a stage “sandwich doctorate” in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences – University of Coimbra – Portugal in the period from July to December 2012, and participated in the international program for the future teachers in the period from February to June 2015 at HAMK – University of Applied Sciences, Finland.

1.CellAtSchool PLUS Application

1We create the Mobile CellAtSchool PLUS, an Android application, environment has been designed using asynchronous services for the delivery of the linguistics material as well as show pedagogical ideas that will help teachers to include mobile technologies for students with hearing impairment of foreign language classes in high school. In this projected model the strategy is learner centered. It has been applied at Federal Institute of Piauí- Teresina Zona Sul Campus- Brazil, to explore new and more effective ways of helping students to learn language, to learn through language and to learn about language. 2.Cell phone: a mobile laboratory of foreign language teaching

 IMG_8122We are living a new phase of Applied Linguistics as the science of design.A moment when some teachers are trying to find and create ways configuring tasks  and activities with the aid of technology that can facilitate problem solving related to language, education and literacy. We received a financial assistance from Federal Institute of Piauí for the acquisition of 47 LG smartphones, Philips headphones and a Camera Sony – the first mobile laboratory in our campus. We put the cellphones in a suitcase and use them in classroom.  The teachers create activities design (with internet or Bluetooth) to use the cell phone in English classroom, in order to improve the language skills of students.
